SAN DIEGO — Competency‐based education is a huge buzzword in higher education right now, but say it to a prospective student, and does he understand what that means in a practical sense? And how do you move from the idea of CBE to an implementation that works for your students and has meaning for your local industry? That was the first hurdle tackled by Eric Heiser, SLCC site says he's dean of the School of Applied Technology and Technical Specialties at Salt Lake Community College, when overhauling the flight technology program to be a CBE‐focused channel for delivering skilled workers into the Utah economy more quickly.
