Registrars come to the profession in a wide variety of ways. For William R. Haid, the idea came straight out of the trash. After he worked with his university's registrar as an undergraduate student‐worker in the institution's computer center, he asked the registrar for a reference when he graduated. The registrar not only agreed; he said he had seen a job posting that might be right for Haid. He reached in his trash can and pulled out a notice for an assistant registrar position at Arizona State University.
