Pilonidal sinus disease has a significant effect on the quality of life of patients due to frequent episodes of painful abscesses requiring time off work and limiting of daily activities. It affects mainly young healthy men and the prevalence has persistently increased over the past 50 years. A high rate of recurrence following all types of surgery is reported. In this article the author describes why a multidisciplinary approach to managementis needed.
