Pelvic inflammatory disease is a major threat to the reproductive health of young women and has a large impact on healthcare resources. Immediate treatment is necessary to prevent long‐term complications such as tubal factor infertility and ectopic pregnancy. The authors emphasise the importance of a pragmatic approach to management.
