The author discusses the diagnosis and treatment of Helicobacter infection of the stomach. The main issue that affects men in the real world, as opposed to clinical trials, is their tendency not to complete courses of treatment, which may mean failure of eradication regimens. Emphasis should be placed on this at the time of prescription. Copyright © 2011 Wiley Interface Ltd
