A discipline‐specific mentoring program in a department will encourage the new colleague to grow and develop within that dis‐ ciplinary context. This, in turn, is essential for progress toward and ultimate attainment of tenure and promotion. The successful colleague retained by the institution is a manifestation of wise stewardship of institutional resources and of service to ourselves as persons.
