Though there is a scarcity of literature on teaching pedagogy in counselor education, accountability in teaching future counselors is a responsibility of all counselor educators. Though no two educators are identical, there are some commonalities in the approaches used to effectively engage students in learning and gaining the knowledge, skills, and awareness needed to ensure optimal professional counselor efficacy. This chapter focuses on defining the signature pedagogy in counselor education. It will provide detailed examples from a SoTL project in the clinical mental health counseling discipline along with plans for analysis and future discussion on whether the chosen pedagogical methods and assignments are effective in increasing student's knowledge, skills, and awareness. The author will also discuss the goals of implementing SoTL practices within counselor education and reflect on the process of engaging in a SoTL project.
