The current article examined the potential role of job satisfaction and self‐efficacy as mediators in the expected relationship between employability and affective organizational commitment (ORC). Data were collected from 230 academic staff at a public university in Pakistan. Findings supported our hypotheses as (1) employability was positively related to ORC, (2) job satisfaction, and (3) self‐efficacy mediated the employability–ORC relationship. Moreover, the results indicated that job satisfaction had more power compared to self‐efficacy as a mediator in the employability–ORC relationship. Implications of the study are discussed in the end. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
