We developed a method for controlling air conditioning, in which the output of the air conditioners is determined on the basis of the thermal load predicted from people flow data. When the upper limit of power consumption is given, the air conditioners are operated so as not to exceed that limit. This is done by strengthening the air conditioning output before the peak limit is violated. Three advantages are obtained with this method. First, the contract demand is reduced, so the basic charges are reduced. Second, the air conditioner capacity is reduced, so the replacement cost is reduced. Last, the comfort level is maintained even when the air conditioner capacity is smaller than the thermal load. These effects were evaluated with data obtained from an example case and verified. © 2019 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
