An efficient methodology of nonrigid registration of coronary artery vascular images with periodic displacement field is presented. The proposed methodology is composed of two parts: the extraction of per‐frame displacement fields by nonrigid registration with frames comprising one heart cycle, and registration of the remaining frames in the sequence using the extracted displacement fields. In this method, the motion of coronary vessels of an entire sequence is efficiently aligned. Experimental evaluation conducted on a set of 16 fluoroscopic angiograms resulted in reduced target registration error (TRE) and computation time, demonstrating the efficiency of the proposed method. © 2018 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
