In Japan, as with the rest of the world, most people use their right hand to accomplish day‐to‐day tasks. Therefore, adults with aphasia that affects the right side of the body typically face difficulties with writing, drawing, and handling objects in their daily lives. Users of tablet PCs can conveniently hold the device in their left hand. However, most tablet PC applications available for Japanese adults with aphasia have limited capability. This paper investigates left‐handed handling of tablet PC applications developed to facilitate nonverbal communications. The research results show the applicability of tablet PCs based on three applications for aphasic Japanese and their caregivers. © 2018 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
