A novel approach proposed for measurement of the liquid level and the low concentration of the electrolytic solution using a single sensor at the same time is presented. For achieving this proposed sensing, a multifunctional sensor with a novel structure is designed. Two sensing functions namely the capacitance and inductance sensing functions can be realized by this sensor. From this sensing, unknown liquid levels and concentrations of the electrolytic solution in a single tank are estimated, respectively. © 2011 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.
