This paper discusses a classification method on knowledge cards including Japanese and Chinese description in offshore software development company. On the basis of the existing classification system of Japanese questionnaire cards for market analysis, our proposed method extends its architecture with two parameters in addition to a terminology dictionary for translating Chinese words to Japanese ones as to Chinese knowledge cards. These two parameters are intended to compensate conversion error when using incomplete Chinese–Japanese translation dictionary. Two experimental results show that our method achieved better classification than that of hand‐translated Japanese cards of Chinese cards. We also discuss the causes of wrong classification. © 2011 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
