In this paper, high‐output motor control and variable voltage system are introduced as technologies, which increase the output of motor drive systems for hybrid vehicles. High‐output motor control enabled 30% increase of output by driving the permanent magnet (PM) motor with a rectangular wave. The variable voltage system successfully managed to achieve both high output and low loss by increasing the battery voltage using a boost converter.
