Note from the Editor: Science is about connections. Some of these are connections between dreams and reality. Surely, dreams are the source of energy necessary to produce great science. In chemistry, the most obvious connections are the bonds: bonds between atoms, bonds between people. It was this metaphor that inspired the title “Bonding Beyond Borders” for the Nozoe Autograph Book publication project. In the following essay accompanying the publication of the ninth segment of the Nozoe Autograph Books , J. D. Tovar of Johns Hopkins University illustrates many connections. He connects some of the signatory's dreams, in the form of their real or projected novel compounds written decades ago, to today's state‐of‐the‐art. He connects theory with experiment. He connects structure with novel optoelectronic or electrical properties. He broadly and firmly connects his own research program with that of the greater novel aromatics community, a remarkable demonstration of progress given that he is barely a decade from receipt of his Ph.D. degree. We are pleased to have this splendid contribution to the Nozoe Autograph Books project. — Jeffrey I.
