Globular proteins are promising carriers for hydrophobic photosensitizers. In the depicted case, hypericin spontaneously binds to apomyoglobin, in a site located within the hydrophobic pocket normally hosting the cofactor heme. As a result, a biocompatible, self‐assembled photoactive nanostructure is obtained, that is highly effective against several bacteria. (Image created by M.
