The name Arctotis radicans was published by Linnaeus in Mantissa plantarum altera . No original material has been traced, and Linnaeus's intended application of the name is unclear. Arctotis radicans was synonymized with the earlier name A. angustifolia in early post‐Linnaean taxonomic works and since the mid‐19th century has been overlooked in taxonomic treatments of Arctotis . A specimen in LINN that best conforms with the diagnosis for A. radicans is selected as the neotype for A. radicans . Based on the identity of the neotype, A. radicans is placed in the synonymy of A. stoechadifolia .
