A comprehensive molecular phylogenetic study of Turneraceae showed that Turnera , the largest genus in the family, should be recircumscribed and divided into 11 series. Here, we propose a lineage‐based classification for the genus, including the description of two new series (ser. Cristatae , ser. Rinoreifoliae ) and a new subseries in ser. Turnera (subser. Macronectariae ). A list of 130 species (and 42 infraspecific taxa) currently accepted and a key to the series and subseries of Turnera are provided.
