The typification of the Linnaean name Aloe vivipara is discussed. The illustration in Rumphius's Herbarium Amboinense is designated as the lectotype. The nomenclatural history of Al. vivipara and related names is presented. Among them, Agave candelabrum (= Al. vivipara ) is lectotypified on an illustration from Todaro. Aloe vivipara is considered a heterotypic synonym of Agave vivipara , the latter name having nomenclatural priority. Agave cantala is neotypified on Wight's illustration, and synonymized with Ag. wightii (= Ag. angustifolia ), which is lectotypified on Wight's specimen at E.
