The anchorage capacity of anchor plates under tensile loads is typically limited by the resistance of concrete against cone failure. This resistance can be increased by using supplementary reinforcement in the concrete member. Several authors cited in this paper have discussed the applicability of current normative design methods for a cost‐efficient design of anchor plates or headed anchors combined with supplementary reinforcement in the concrete member. A novel analytical approach has been recently developed by Sharma et al. (2017) to allow for a more efficient design of such anchorages. The applicability of the new analytical approach for the design a proprietary model of anchor plate is discussed in this paper.
