The new Vienna Central Railway Station is set to become a multi‐modal hub in the trans‐European rail network. The significance of the project is also reflected in its architecture: The highlight is the momentous, partially translucent roof, which spans all platforms and affords natural lighting inside the station building, thus creating a comfortable atmosphere. The 40000 m² of steel roof largely determines the breathtaking initial impression of Vienna, which will receive millions of visitors from around the world coming by rail (see pp. A4–A5).
