The station in Valencia, named after the Valencian artist Joaquín Sorolla, opened in December 2010 with the launching of the new high‐speed line that places Madrid just 90 minutes away from the coast of Valencia. The structure is a module‐based construction concept that is defined of a set of building blocks consisting of identical perforated pieces held together using bolts. The main structure is defined by the repetition of modules on a 14 × 14 m grid on plan. Modules with columns alternate with modules without columns, the latter resting on the former at all four corners. The lengthways sequence thus has columns every 28 m (see pp. 21—28).
