Eight new chitin derivatives have been synthesized via S N 2 reaction of primary and secondary amines with tosylchitin. The products were characterized using FTIR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy. A degree of substitution ˜ 1 was achieved through this process. These materials are soluble in water at room temperature, which enable their further applications in the future.
