Abstract Corn starch can be acylated on extrusion with succinic, maleic and phthalic anhydrides as well as with butane tetraioic dianhydride in the presence of carbonate buffer. Such reaction mixtures containing 30% moisture gave highly hydrophobic products of low or moderate water binding capacity.
