Abstract Reaction of oven‐dried potato starch with either aluminum or arsenic(III) chlorides results in the formation of aluminum and arsenic(III) starchates in which remain OAlCl 2 and OAsCl 2 as well as OAl(Cl)O and OAs(Cl)O moieties, respectively. The reactions are accompanied by dextrinization of starch leading to compounds slowly hydrolyzing in water.
