Whole‐cell glucose isomerase immobilization on radiation‐modified gelatine gel was demonstrated. The enzyme was stabilized within the cells by heat‐treatment at 70°C. The heat‐treated cells were mixed with radiation‐modified gelatine gel and cross‐linked by glutaraldehyde. Immobilized enzyme exhibited 70–75% activity as compared to the free cells. Several properties of immobilized glucose isomerase were studied under various reaction conditions. A continuous isomerization was performed using a column packed with cell granules. It has been found, that the half‐life of the immobilized glucose isomerase amounted to 650 h at 60°C.
