Effect of Chemicals on the Carbohydrate Contents of Lagenaria vulgaris Seeds During Germination

The effect of soaking treatment of fertilizers and growth regulators on the carbohydrate contents of Lagenaria vulgaris seeds during germination was studied. The carbohydrate contents of the seeds after soaking treatment at the optimum pH of the medium were also determined. From the results it is concluded that the contents of carbohydrate are affected differently and the effect is much pronounced after second day of germination. Variations in the contents of carbohydrate are explained by the effect of chemicals and of metabolites on the related enzymes. Results are discussed in relation to nutritive value.
