Crosslinked starch was reacted with epichlorohydrin to give the 3‐chloro‐2‐hydroxypropyl ether. The chloro group of this starch product was treated with various amines to yield water insoluble starches containing a high degree of substitution of anionic, cationic or chelating groups. These products were evaluated and conditions determined for the most effective binding of copper and cadmium.
