After a brief introduction the importance of hydrogenation products like sorbitol, xylitol, mannitol, polyol mixtures and hydrogenated glucose syrup is discussed. Then the theoretical aspects of hydrogenation and the various hydrogenation technologies are described. Finally, a comparison is made between the discontinuous low pressure CRS (Chemical Recycling Systems) process and the continuous hydrogenation technology under high pressure developed earlier by the author.
