The nature of the complex granules of wrinkled‐seeded pea starch has been examined, and related to changes in the starch during growth. An earlier hypothesis for the development of pea starch is shown to be untenable in the light of this information, and possible alternative mechanisms for the biogenesis of pea starch are discussed.
