Syntheses of Branched‐Chain Monosaccharides The occurence and the significance of branchedchain sugars is described. A method is outlined for the synthesis of complex branched‐chain sugars with functionalized side‐chain, which fo the first time makes the class of these substances accessible. The synthesis of L‐streptose, D‐hamamelose, D‐aldgarose is described. By the synthesis of D‐aldgarose interesting stereochemical problems and, whose solutions are discussed.
