Rio 2016 – Ein Rückblick

Wenn man schon nicht als Sportler bei den Olympischen Spielen teilnehmen kann, dann bietet der Beruf des Ingenieurs wider Erwarten eine Alternative. Es gibt garantiert keine Medaillen zu gewinnen, aber auch hier gilt “Dabeisein ist alles”. Dass “unser” Maracanã‐Stadion eine Hauptrolle bei der Olympiade spielen würde, war zu erwarten. Dass wir Teil des Teams zur Planung der Eröffnungs‐ und Schlusszeremonie werden würden, und somit ein ganz ungewöhnliches Betätigungsfeld für Ingenieure erschließen würden, war nicht vorherzusehen. Auch die restlichen Planungsaufgaben für die größtenteils temporären Tennis‐ und Schwimmanlagen und die Live Site eröffneten neue Perspektiven und Herausforderungen. Alles in allem waren es sehr spannende Jahre mit einem tollen Finale. Rio 2016. If you can't make it to the Olympics as an athlete, then maybe you should try engineering. There's no medals to be won, but the most important thing is to take part. That “our” Maracanã Stadium would play a major role at the Olympics goes without saying, but the fact that we would end up being part of the team to plan the opening and closing ceremonies went well beyond our expectations, opening up a very different field of engineering. Even the planning for the (in large parts) temporary tennis and swimming facilities revealed a host of new perspectives and challenges. Altogether, it was a very exciting time with beautiful games.
