Cylindrical shells are mainly used for the storage of gas and flui s which cause membran stresses in the wall of the shell. Due to small stress es and small deformations caused by these loads cylindrical shells are o ften realized as slender structures. Nozzeles attached to the wall might cause high s tresses in the vicinity of the nozzel which affect the load-displacement-relation s a d the ultimate loads of these structures. In some cases the wall of the shell in the vicinity of the nozzle has to be reinforced. Theoretical and experimental investi gations on this field dealt with cylindrical shells with small and medium R/t-ratios. Geometrical and physical nonlinearities were nelected in these studies. In this work cylindrical shells withR/t-ratios between 400 and 5000 were investigated by means of FEA. Cylindrical shells subjedted to radial loads and moments in circumferential and axial direction were consid ere . These investigations take into account the effects of geometrical and phy sical nonlinearities. Reinforcing pads are consideres as well. The results are presented in graphical form. Design rules ar given for cylindrical shells under local loading which also applies for reinfo rced shells and plastic material behaviour. Inhaltsverzeichnis I
