Abstract Concern about women's issues in HIV prevention and sexual health promotion centers on the biological, psychological, developmental, and sociocultural conditions and constraints in women's lives. These realities create a complex pattern of risk involving concepts of self, relationships, and gender roles. Responding to women's needs in HIV prevention requires diverse, highly targeted strategies directed at individuals and their communities.
