The effect of different homogenization parameters on the microstructure and element distribution of Cr8Mo2SiV cold‐work die steel ingot is investigated. Based on the Thermo‐Calc software and laser confocal microscopy, the optimal heat treatment temperature range from 1160 to 1230 °C is obtained for experimental steel. In order to improve dendritic segregation of as‐cast microstructure consisting of a large number of network eutectic carbides enriched in alloying elements, the homogenization treatment is carried out at the above determined temperatures for 0.5, 1, and 3 h, respectively. Then, according to the segregation ratio of Cr element, the homogenization at 1180 °C for 3 h successfully eliminates the microsegregation, which is in agreement with the calculation of the diffusion kinetic model of Cr element.
