In this article, the performance of Ti single‐stabilized 409 ferritic stainless steel and Ti–Nb dual‐stabilized 409 ferritic stainless steels with Nb contents of 0.15 and 0.3 wt% are studied to develop low‐cost ferritic stainless steel for automotive exhaust systems. The results show that the performance of dual‐stabilized 409 Ti–Nb stainless steels is superior to 409Ti stainless steel in condensed liquid corrosion resistance, high temperature strength, and high temperature fatigue resistance. The investigation of mechanisms indicates that the refinement of inclusions by Nb addition can enhance the corrosion resistance significantly, and the better high‐temperature performance, that is, strength and fatigue resistance, can also be attributed to the precipitation of NbC.
