The microstructural evolution of Laves phase in 9Cr–3W–3Co steel under long‐term isothermal treatment has been experimentally investigated in this paper. As distinguished in SEM‐BSE images, the mean size and area fraction of Laves phase particles are statistically measured. With the help of thermodynamic calculation and phase analysis, the weight fraction of precipitates at equilibrium state and under aging for up to 10 000 h is analyzed. W in matrix is depleted; and W enhances the formation and coarsening of Laves phase. This might be the explanation of the softening behavior of matrix and the deterioration of toughness of this steel during aging.
