Since the commissioning of the new technology center in November 2007, the research facility at the Salzgitter site has been equipped to simulate the entire process chain, ranging from the manufacture to processing of steel on the lab scale. A cold‐rolled hot‐dip galvanized dual‐phase steel of grade HCT780XD is used to illustrate in detail the function (manufacture, optimization and processing) of the new technology center. This includes (i) a special laboratory rolling mill for cold rolling and skin passing samples under strip tension; (ii) an annealing simulator; (iii) a hot‐dip galvanizing simulator and (iv) a high‐speed‐tryout forming press.
