The application of Fourier‐transform‐infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) as a method for in‐situ measurements of the spectral emission coefficient is described. During the transformation of the glassy Silicate slag 26CaO + 24MgO + 50SiO 2 (mole fractions in %) in the temperature range 900 up to 1200°C into the crystalline diopside the emssion coefficient changes in a characteristic way. Using this method the temporal development of the crystallisation is measured and evaluated.
