Heat transfer characteristics in tundishes with and without auxiliary heating are predicted. Two types of heating arrangements are considered: namely, localized plasma heating from the surface, and induction heating at a central location just downstream of the “pouring box”. These calculations were carried out for tundish designs with and without flow control devices. The effects of the heating arrangements on the exit temperature are also compared for the various tundish designs.
