The transfer of nickel between electro reduction furnace slags as produced from the reduction treatment of Greek laterites in Larymna and ferronickel (Fe–Ni), was studied. These SiO 2 –FeO‐CaO–MgO–Al 2 O 3 – x ( x = S, P 2 O 5 , Cr 2 O 3 , NiO) slags were used for the laboratory experiments, which were performed in a 25 kW, 10 000 Hz induction furnace. The theoretical aspects of the nickel transfer from the ERF‐slags are presented. The overall mass transfer coefficient k g was experimentally determined. The temperature dependence of k g [cm/s] is given by the relation: In .
