Oxide‐sulfide melts are employed for bath smelting of iron ores. The reaction mechanisms in the system Fe–O–S with carbon monoxide are investigated. Oxide‐sulfide phases have the advantage of high solubility of wustite and magnetite and dissolved iron oxides can easily be reduced.
