A kinetic model was developed for the description of CaO and CaS formation in aluminum deoxidized steel melts during CaSi wire feeding as a function of time. The model calculations show that decreasing aluminum content and rising temperature advance CaO formation and simultaneously suppress CaS formation in the calcium‐treated melt. CaS formation increases strongly with increasing CaSi feeding quantity in melts of high sulphur content.
