Practical observations on the application of oxygen sensors, argon stirring, mould additions for rimstabilized steel. Discussion of ladle desulphurisation. Deformability of oxide inclusions, control of blowhole formation. Suppression of the precipitation of MnS by absorbing the dissolved sulphur with minute calcium aluminate particles entrained in liquid steel containing less than 0.002% S, and by rare earth treatments before casting steel containing 0.002 to 0.006% S. Aspects of steelmaking and casting clean steel, particularly high‐strength, low‐alloy steels.
