Determination of the characteristic values in the tensile test, and of the notched‐bar impact strength at ambient temperature, as well as light‐optical, transmission and scanning electron microscopic structural investigation of a steel with approx. 0.03% C, 0.4% Si, 4.1% Mn, 0.4% Mo, and 0.07% Nb after a) controlled forging, b) forging with intermediate reheating, and schedule b) and subsequent normalizing. Conclusions, particularly in regard to the influence of grain size on overall toughness.
