The determination of boron present in solid solution in the austenitic condition has been investigated following a procedure based on austenisation of the sample, rapid quenching, electrolytical attack of the matrix and analysis of boron in the isolate or in the electrolyte. Control of the presence of B 2 O 3 . as such has been effected by the nitriding of the sample followed by analysis of boron soluble by electrolytic attack. Correlations between boron in solid solution by this procedure and boron factor and hardness are shown.
