Self‐organized patterns of behaviour in the workplace can help or hinder corporate performance. To effectively handle such patterns, a manager must learn to detect them. However, detecting self‐organized patterns is difficult. Drawing from a grounded theory study, this paper examines obstacles to consciousness of self‐organized workplace patterns, which result in such patterns being misinterpreted or overlooked.
