In an excellent paper 1 , Young describes a tool that aids the Pascal programmer by providing support for data abstractions. This paper compares Young's work to a similar tool for Pascal that has been designed and implemented by the authors. It demonstrates that parameterized module instantiations allow one to express some abstractions more naturally than does Young's method. The design goals and implementation details are discussed.
