An approach is described in this paper for realizing attribute grammars. A system called STAR has been implemented according to this approach. The system is based on the STAGE2 macroprocessor. It is simple, portable, it can run even on small machines, it can be quickly implemented and it has a convenient to the user metalanguage. The system, however, disregards efficiency and is limited to small size problems.
