Binary output of translators in many cases is of such a kind that a linkage editor (relocatable loader) needs an unnecessarily high amount of time for the construction of a core image. For the CONTROL DATA CYBER operating systems SCOPE 3.4 and 2.1 a program has been developed by the authors, which demonstrates the truth of the above statement quantitatively, and which may be used to improve relocatable load files as well as libraries.
